Student Leadership & Advocacy Program

Agenda

Student Leadership

The Student Leadership & Advocacy Program took place at the Harlingen Convention Center on October 11, 2024, welcoming almost 70 UTRGV SOPM students. This initiative aimed to enhance leadership skills and empower students to advocate for their profession, preparing them for future roles within APMA, TPMA, and the broader podiatric community.

Roundtable discussions sparked engaging conversations about defining the mission of the TPMSA chapter. Students assessed their leadership styles and learned strategies for effective teamwork and collaboration.

We were thrilled to have Senator Morgan LaMantia as our guest speaker, who gave the students insights into the importance of advocacy, the increasing demand for podiatrists in Texas, and the Texas Legislature's support for the School of Podiatric Medicine at UTRGV.

By the end of the program, students gained a deeper understanding of the significance of leadership organizations and the vital need for ongoing advocacy for podiatry at both the state and national levels.

We look forward to fostering and supporting the growth of the TPMSA chapter.
